Francis Academy offers classes in Sutton Coldfield. Our core subjects are Ballet, Tap, Acrobatics and Tumbling (other genres offered). Classes cater for all ages and are taught to examination standard following the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) syllabus. Examinations are Ofqual accredited.
Francis Academy offers a professional attitude towards teaching and always strive for high standards. Each pupil will be correctly guided along their path of learning new skills and disciplines’ in order to prepare pupils for dancing professionally or simply enjoy as a hobby.
To add to the excitement of dancing, props are used, particularly for the younger dancers, such as fairy wings and wands. Also, to further encourage the dancers there is a ‘Star of the Week’ award.

Acro classes
Acrodance combines the control and fluidity of dance and movement along with strength, flexibility, balance and limbering. Together they create an impressive powerful performance.
From learning your beginner skills such as a bridge to your move advanced side aerials.
CLASS 1 – Friday 4-5pm from Age 8 and under
CLASS 2 – Friday 5.45-6.45pm from Age 9+
CLASS 1 & 2 – Saturday 11.30-12.00pm

Ballet Classes
Ballet focuses on posture, balance, discipline, grace, self-confidence, stamina and flexibility. Knowledge of basic Ballet is extremely important for all other styles of dance and serves as the backbone of all dance training.
We recommend that you take Ballet alongside any other dance style. In this class students will start to learn the disciplines and basics of Ballet.
The class will be based around the IDTA Ballet syllabus and there will be options to do exams further down the line. IDTA exams are government recognised exams, and will go towards UCAS points if a child decides to go to University.

Tap classes
Tap teaches students rhythm, co-ordination and timing. Students are taught to link basic steps and rhythms in this class.
This class is based around the IDTA Tap syllabus, and there will be options to do exams further down the line.
IDTA exams are government recognised exams, and will go towards UCAS points if a child decides to go to University.

Baby Ballet Classes
Our baby ballet classes are extremely popular. There are huge benefits associated with ballet for babies and toddlers. Unlike traditional ballet sessions where the emphasis is on perfect points and pirouettes, the focus in these lessons is firmly on fun.
CLASS 1 – Wednesday 10-10.30am – for Age 18 months to 4yrs – 3 week trial £15.00
CLASS 2 – Saturday 8.50-9.20am – for Age 18 months to 4yrs – 3 week trial £15.00
CLASS 3 – Saturday 9.30-10.00am –
for Age 18 months to 4yrs – 3 week trial £15.00

Tumbling classes
In this class the children can gain the confidence to learn tumble tricks ready for floor based Acro. Tricks such as somersaults, back-handsprings, side and front aerials will be taught in the class.
We use a top-of-the-range 10 metre tumble track which is great fun, but also makes the lessons very safe and helps to increase confidence.
CLASS 1 – Monday 4-5pm for Age 5+
CLASS 2 – Monday 5-6pm for Age 5+
CLASS 1 & 2 – Saturday 12-1pm

FAQ
Are all ages welcome?
Yes! Our classes cater for children of all ages and abilities. Classes are separated into age groups 3yrs+, 9yrs+ etc.
Is dance experience necessary?
No not at all. Classes cover everyone from complete beginner to experienced dancers. You child will be taught according to their ability and encouraged to learn in a fun and supportive way.
What about health and safety?
All staff are fully trained in First Aid and are DBS checked. We have Health & Safety, Child Protection, Safeguarding and Code of Conduct Policies in place to ensure your child has fun in a completely safe environment.
Do we need any equipment ?
No not at all. On your first day your child just needs to be wearing comfortable (not too loose) clothing. Trainers or pumps are fine. Uniforms and dance shoes may be purchased at a later date.
How much do classes cost?
Classes start at £3.50 for a half hour session. All classes are booked on monthly basis and paid in advance.
Are there qualifications or exams?
All classes are taught to International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA) standard. Examinations and qualifications can be arranged for your child as they progress.
